Here are some supplies you'll want to
have on hand when you bring your new puppy home:
- High quality puppy formula dog food. We
recommend using food that is formulated
for large dog breeds and has a high protein content.
- Food and water dishes. Stainless steel ones work
best since it can't be chewed up like plastic dishes. (also, it is
believed that plastic dishes can cause the pup's black
nose to lighten
to pink)
- A crate that will fit your pup comfortably
when he/she reaches adult size. You may
also put bedding in the crate
or have an alternate bed outside the crate in your
home.
- A leash and collar that fits your puppy.
You'll need to purchase a new collar as your
puppy grows. Adjustable
collars also work well.
- An i.d. tag with your puppy's name, your name
and phone number, and your
veterinarian's name and phone number.
- Toys and lots of them! Pick high quality,
sturdy chew toys. You'll need to teach your
dog what can and can't be
chewed on, so having plenty of toys on hand will
encourage your pup to
chew on them and not your sofa while he/she is teething.
- Treats which can be used as rewards during
training.
- Toothbrush. Start using it on your pup at a
young age so he/she will be used to it.
- Paper towels for easy clean-up of wet paws or
accidents. Baby wipes also work
well.
- Carpet stain remover, just in case!
- A brush for grooming
- Nail clipper
- Dog shampoo or tear-free baby shampoo works
well too
